Brain-To-Brain Communication?

This stuff of science fiction is now in the labs of the University of Washington. Two researcher were able to established brain to brain communication through the Internet through Skype. They believe is the first noninvasive human-to-human brain interface.

Rajesh Rao was able to sent a signal to Andrea Stocco to move one of his fingers via their human-to-human brain interface across the other side of the campus.

“The Internet was a way to connect computers, and now it can be a way to connect brains,” Stocco said. “We want to take the knowledge of a brain and transmit it directly from brain to brain.”

Wow! Isn't this amazing? I recall The Matrix where Neo plugged his head on some kind of head gadget to transfer a skill and in minutes became a master kung fu fighter. We are not there yet. But this two guys might just be the catalyst to fast track this development.

This is just my take on it. And it may be farfetched. Far from their intent.

But, Is it possible? Maybe, maybe not! Who knows what lies ahead.

Lasers where at a time the stuff of science fiction. No one thought lasers can be tamed. Today, lasers are use to read data in discs, to save lives, to cut steel and glass, and as a weapon, and more.

Maybe 50 years from now, we would see it begin to emerge in some form of games in simple devices. And then another 50 years or so, we might be able to transfer a skill from one person to another. Before then, we might yet see some casualties. :D

The technology used by the researchers is called EEG or Electroencephalography. This is already well known and is employed in most, if not all medical centers around the world. And is routinely used by clinicians and researchers to record brain activity noninvasively from the scalp.

It may sound eerie to think that one might be able to control another from across the Internet. But this is not so yet, because one must put on the EEG head-set to be able to receive brain signals from another from across the Internet.

One day though, through properly equipt head-sets we might just be able to communicate our thoughts directly to another. And of course, I would imagine there would be some kind of initiation control, just like how we communicate today with instant messaging apps.

Otherwise, what is not invasive might just become invasive and this is the eerie stuff. Murphy's Law suggest this could happen. Just like how we sometimes get invaded by computer viruses. But as always, we find ways and eventually we will get there -- to the near perfection if not perfection.

Tools, like technology is neutral and will be used accordingly as one sees fit.

How I would love this technology? Might we be able to perhaps learn in a few minutes or few hours what we use to spend 5, 6, 10 years in the Universities? It would be Awesome! Wouldn't it?
